The 30th annual CIF State Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26 at Woodward Park in Fresno. The schedule is as follows: 8:30 a.m. Division 4 boys, 9 a.m. Division 5 boys, 9:30 a.m. Division 4 girls, 10:05 a.m. Division 5 girls, 10:40 a.m. Division 1 boys, 11:10 a.m. Division 2 girls, 11:45 a.m. Division 3 boys, 12:15 p.m. Division 1 girls, 12:50 p.m. Division 2 boys, 1:20 p.m. Division 3 girls.

Here are 10 athletes to follow at one of the strongest state finals in the country, which also serves as a selection meet for Nike Cross Nationals:

Kiyena Beatty, Great Oak, Sr.

Not only does Beatty have an opportunity to accomplish something no other Wolfpack standout has ever achieved, but she has a chance to join an elite group of female runners to compete on four state championship teams. Although Great Oak is pursuing a fifth consecutive Division 1 state crown, Beatty would be the only individual during that streak to win four state team titles, joining Amber Murakami, Kaylin Mahoney and Karis Frankian from Saugus, along with Jennie Callan and Lizzy Teerlink from San Francisco University. Beatty is also seeking her second all-state honor after placing seventh in 2014.

Justin Hazell, El Camino Real, Jr.

After finishing 69th in the Division 1 state final last year, the L.A. City Section champion is motivated to become the first El Camino Real runner to secure all-state honors. Marshall’s Hector Garcia and Venice’s Paul Luevano were both City Section standouts to finish in the top 10 in Division 1 the past two seasons, with Hazell looking to extend that streak following strong performances at the Woodbridge Classic and Mt. SAC Invitational. The best finish by a City boys runner in Division 1 came in 2009 when San Pedro’s Pablo Rosales placed second in 15:08.

Kira Loren, Canyon Crest Academy, Sr.

The San Diego Section Division 2 champion already completed one turnaround after finishing 66th at Balboa Park in last year’s final, improving her time by more than three minutes. Loren now has her sights set on an even bigger jump at the state meet, placing 158th in 20:31.5 at Woodward Park last season. Anne Charles and Kelly Bernd both earned all-state honors in Division 3 in the past five years for Canyon Crest, but Loren is looking to become the first Division 2 all-state performer for the Ravens.

Moises Medrano, Bakersfield Highland, Jr.

Following his 15:33.94 performance at Woodward Park to win the Central Section Division 2 title, Medrano is now seeking all-state honors following a 51st-place finish in 16:06.8 at the finals last year. The last Highland runner to earn all-state recognition was Mario Grijalva, who placed fourth in Division 2 in 2001 after taking eighth in 2000. The last Bakersfield area standout to win a state championship was Foothill’s Chris Schwartz in Division 1 in 2007.

Hana Hall, Shasta, Fr.

If the last name looks familiar, it should. The adopted daughter of Ryan Hall and Sara (Bei) Hall, who combined to win six individual state cross country championships during their respective high school careers at Big Bear and Santa Rosa Montgomery, the ninth-grade talent enters her state meet debut with plenty of momentum after winning the Eastern Athletic League and Northern Section titles. Hall became only the fourth freshman to capture the Northern girls individual championship and is looking to become Shasta’s first female runner to earn all-state honors since 1990.

Kevin Ramos, Rubidoux, Soph.

After sweeping the top two spots in the Southern Section Division 3 final with senior teammate and champion Erik Gonzalez, Ramos is not only looking to improve from finishing 31st in his state finals debut last season, but potentially make history. No boys teammates have ever finished first and second in any division at the state finals, with Gonzalez looking to improve from 22nd last season to challenge for the title. The last time it happened for the girls was 2012 when Branson’s Julia Maxwell and Anna Harleen achieved the feat in Division 5 and the only time it happened in Division 3 was in 2006 with Corona del Mar’s Sarah Cummings and Shelby Buckley.

Natalie Novitsky, Sacred Heart Prep, Sr.

By winning the Central Coast Section Division 4 title, Novitsky not only improved from 10th last season, but she defeated three returning athletes who earned all-state honors in Mari Friedman of Santa Cruz, Niki Iyer of The Harker School and Abigail Meck of San Lorenzo Valley. In one of the deepest Division 4 fields in recent years, Novitsky looks to build off her performance at Crystal Springs to elevate from a 40th-place finish in last season’s state final and join her section rivals by becoming the first all-state performer for the Gators.

Collin Ullrich, Liberty Ranch, Jr.

The first-year runner accelerated his learning curve in impressive fashion to capture the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 title by a 24-second margin at Willow Hills. Since a sixth-place finish Oct. 15 behind five Division 3 runners at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational, Ullrich has won three consecutive races to gain confidence entering his state debut. He is bidding to become the first Sac-Joaquin Section male runner to earn all-state recognition since Sonora's Steven Grolle in 2013 and the first in the history of the Hawks’ program to secure all-state honors.

Kate Bowen, Sonoma Academy, Fr.

Trying to duplicate the success of older sister Rylee Bowen, who won a Division 5 title in her state meet debut, will be a tough challenge for the impressive ninth-grader. But the younger Bowen, who finished fifth at the North Coast Section finals, could become the fourth female runner for the Coyotes’ program to earn all-state honors in the past seven years. She could also give Sonoma Academy two all-state performers in the same year for only the second time, including 2014 when Alyssa Goody placed fifth in support of Rylee’s first state title.

Jake Lange, The Nueva School, Sr.

For the first time the Mavericks will have not just one, but both teams competing in the state meet, an impressive achievement for a fourth-year school with an enrollment of only 235 students. Lange became the program’s first Central Coast Section Division 5 champion, leading Nueva to a third-place finish to advance to the state final along with the girls team – which includes sophomore sister Jenna Lange – that won the school’s first section title in any sport. Lange has made significant improvements throughout his career, giving him a legitimate opportunity to earn all-state honors after winning his race at the Mt. SAC Invitational and placing second at the Stanford Invitational.
