The Saugus High girls' cross country team and Simi Valley's Sarah Baxter continued their amazing runs today at the state championships in Fresno. Baxter, a junior, set the course record of 16 minutes, 39.7 seconds at Woodward Park, winning her third Div. I title in a row. Saugus captured its seventh consecutive state title, including fifth in a row in Div. II, by defeating La Costa Canyon 97-108. The Centurions' Samantha Ortega clocked a program-record 17:32.7 to finish second overall. Desert Christian's Rachael Power took third in Div. V in 18:40, the best placement at the state meet in program history. In the boys' races, Westlake held off Saugus 84-97 to win its first Div. II state championship.
