The Torrey Pines High senior studied stories before the Division I boys race at the State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park on Saturday and couldn’t help but note there was growing belief his dominant win over Bakersfield Stockdale’s Blake Haney at Mt. SAC last month was edging toward the “one-time wonder” category. Running in memory of his girlfriend’s grandfather, who passed away recently, Braude made a bold statement by winning the Division I race in 15:02 — equal to the day’s fastest time over the 3.1-mile course.
